Powerful Goal Setting

Have you got goals that you want to achieve by the end of the year?

In order to design the life you want it’s important to set yourself goals, not only so you know what to aim for but because they help us stretch and grow in ways we never have before. If we set ourselves powerful long-term goals it also helps us get past any short-term obstacles we may be facing. Goals provide focus and help us become better at what we do.

Below I share with you 4 key steps to goal setting. I've successfully managed teams of people for over 17 years and my favourite part was helping them develop and grow. I love supporting others to figure out what they want to do, in both their personal and business lives. We need to be passionate about our goals as we are far more likely to achieve them.

Key steps to powerful goal setting:

🎯 Evaluation 

Look at where you are now and consider, is it ok? Reflect back - how have things changed in the last 5 years, the last year, the last three months? How are you finding life at the moment? Where do you need to do things differently, what would you like to improve on? You need to understand where you are now in order to move forward.

🎯 Definition

What do you really want? Have you ever really sat down and thought about your life values and decided what you really want? Think about what you really want to do for fun, or for a living. Give yourself some quiet time and really explore what it is that gets your heart racing and what makes you happy. Capture these thoughts, prioritise them, consider which are most practical and which would you love to do most. The only thing standing in your way is you.

🎯 Make your Goals SMART

Goals need to be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timebound. You need to be clear on what you’re aiming for, understand how to keep track of your progress, you need to be practical how you go about actioning it and goals have to be something you can make a reality in your life. Set yourself a realistic timeframe to achieve it – not so far you procrastinate and lose focus, not so close that its unachievable and you lose confidence. Break down big goals into smaller ones.

🎯 Accountability

If you really want to put some focus on your goals, tell someone about them. If people ask you where you are in the process of achieving your goals, this gives more power to the process and helps keep you on track. Find someone to hold you accountable to achieving your most important goals.
